Rediscovering Content Creation
A Journey from Polish to English
Hello there! Let me (re)introduce myself. My name is Damian Michalak. I’m a network engineer and a huge enthusiast of topics like personal development, mindfulness, productivity and minimalism.
Video version of this post
For those who prefer watching over reading:
In 2013, I embarked on a journey that would shape my online presence for years to come.
Driven by my passion for network engineering, I launched a blog to document my experiences and insights in the field.
This blog became a diary of my professional journey, where I shared what I learned and my thoughts on the industry.
Over the years, my content creation evolved, branching out into personal development with a vlog in 2019, inspired by creators like Casey Neistat and a Polish vlogger Mirek Burnejko.
This journey, however, took an unexpected turn during the pandemic, leading to sort of a burnout. Now, I am rediscovering content creation - this time in English.
The Rise and Fall
For over a decade, I have been active on the Internet, writing numerous articles and creating content that resonated with my core audience in Poland.
My vlogging experiment in 2019 was a significant milestone for myself - even though it did not attract that many eyeballs.
Inspired by creators who maintained a daily recording streak, I launched my own vlog, posting content from Monday to Friday and creating a total of 100 episodes, over a span of 20 weeks.
All of this content was in Polish, as I felt confident expressing my thoughts in my native language and believed my core audience was in Poland.
However, the pandemic brought about significant changes. Burnout and social changes led me to take a break from content creation.
My networking blog became dormant, and I stopped posting new content on my vlog.
During this quiet time, I reflected on my motivations for creating content.
Reading books by Austin Kleon, such as "Show Your Work", "Steal Like an Artist", and "Keep Going", made me realize that my motivations were misguided.
I recognized that what made me happy was sharing my thoughts and opinions for my own sake, and if others found them useful, that was a bonus.
This realization has reignited my passion for content creation. I want to return to creating in public, sharing my thoughts and documenting my journey around topics such as network engineering, personal development, minimalism, productivity, and reading.
This time, I will do so regardless of whether anyone is interested. If someone finds value in it, I appreciate that. I hope to be of use and welcome you to join me on this journey.
Why English is the Way to Go
The decision to switch to English for my content creation stems from a desire to make my content more accessible.
We live in a time of globalization, where English is the dominant language in content creation.
By creating content in English, I make it instantly available and discoverable to people worldwide.
Additionally, I want to practice my English, improve my vocabulary, become more fluent, enhance my grammar, and work on my accent.
Creating content in Polish presented challenges, such as tackling niche topics that were not easily discoverable and dealing with unsupportive attitudes from some individuals.
In contrast, my experience consuming English content has shown me a community that cheers for you, supports your endeavors, and views your success as a source of inspiration.
These are the types of people I aim to reach with my content. I want to cultivate a circle of individuals who share similar values and view life and the content they consume as opportunities for personal improvement.
In conclusion, my journey from Polish to English content creation is driven by a desire to share my thoughts and experiences with a broader audience and to improve my language skills.
I invite you to join me on this journey as I rediscover the joy of content creation and strive to inspire and be inspired.
See you in the next one!
